I am pleased to announce that one of our Attorneys, Bryan Adler, attained the designation of Certified Elder Law Attorney (CELA). The National Elder Law Foundation (NELF) certifies attorneys in the area of Elder Law and is the only organization approved by the American Bar Association to offer such a certification.
The CELA designation is awarded only to attorneys focusing their practice in elder law who demonstrate their expertise by passing a rigorous national certifying examination and by verifying their involvement in complex elder law matters.
An attorney with the CELA designation must meet the following criteria:
- Licensed to practice in at least one state, or the District of Columbia;
- Actively practiced law for five years prior to applying for certification;
- Member in good standing of the Bar Association for all states in which he or she is licensed to practice law;
- Spent, on average, no fewer than 16 hours per week practicing elder law during the three years immediately preceding application for certification;
- Handled at least 60 elder law matters during the three years immediately preceding application for certification;
- Participated in at least 45 hours of continuing education during the three years immediately preceding application for certification;
- Receive favorable evaluations by five elder law attorneys who meet specific criteria;
- Pass a full-day certification exam consisting of both multiple-choice and essay questions;
- Repeat the certification process every five years.
Pennsylvania and New Jersey are each home to fewer than 50 Certified Elder Law Attorneys.
Congratulations to Bryan on earning the CELA designation.
