As 2021 draws to a close, there are important 2022 elder law numbers that should be paid attention to by seniors and their loved ones. With these new changes in mind, now is the time to plan finances ahead of the year to come.
2022 Medicare Numbers
The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) has released the new Medicare premiums, deductibles, and co-payments for 2022:
Basic Part B premium:………………………………………………..$170.10/month (was $148.50 in 2021)
Part B deductible:……………………………………………………….$233.00 ($203.00 in 2021)
Part A deductible:……………………………………………………….$1,556.00 (was $1,484.00 in 2021)
Co-payment for hospital stay days 61-90:……………………..$389.00/day (was $37.00 in 2021)
Co-payment for hospital stay days 91-150:…………………….$778.00/day (was $742.00 in 2021)
All costs for each day beyond 150 days
Skilled nursing facility co-payment, days 21-100:…………$194.50/day (was $185.50 in 2021)
Also, note that individuals with annual incomes over $91,000.00 and married couples with annual incomes over $182,000.00 will pay a higher Medicare Part B premium, with a minimum monthly premium of $238.10.
2022 Medicaid Numbers
CMS has also released the 2022 guidelines for how much spouses of institutionalized Medicaid recipients may keep.
Maximum Community Spouse Resource Allowance:……….$137,400.00 (was $130,380.00 in 2021)
Minimum Community Spouse Resource Allowance:……….$27,480.00 (was $26,076.00 in 2021)
Maximum Monthly Maintenance Needs Allowance:……….$3,435.00 (was $3,259.50 in 2021)
Minimum Monthly Maintenance Needs Allowance:………..$2,177.50 (thru June 30, 2022)
Medicaid Waiver Benefits Income Cap:………………………….$2,523.00 per month (was $2,382.00 in 2021)
Pennsylvania Medicaid Penalty Divisor:………………………..$14,676.04 ($482.50/day), as of January 1st, 2022
New Jersey Medicaid Penalty Divisor:…………………………..$361.20/day, since April 1st, 2021
2022 VA Aid and Attendance
Single Veteran…………………..$2,050.00/ month
Married Veteran………………..$2,431.00/ month
