A few weeks ago, we received the below online review on Google, for which we are very grateful. The review brought tears to our eyes as it described how our elder care law services helped this client and family.

“Rothkoff law has truly been a pinnacle part of providing my mother with a much better life as she inches closer to the end of her rich and meaningful life. It’s hard to express in words how important their role has been in all they have done. They have served my mother now for almost four years, and they have the same zeal to care for my mother’s needs as they did since day one. I honestly do not know whether my mother would be here today if she had not received the care through services they fought for her to receive. What value can you put on a human life beloved by so many? Their work is truly priceless, and you at Rothkoff Law should wake up every day and feel proud as you enter through your doors to keep changing the lives of so many. I especially would like to express my deep gratitude to Bryan Adler, Sandy, and Kathleen, but also to the whole Rothkoff team for all that you have done and continue to do!”

However, although the words expressed were very meaningful, what was not stated was also very meaningful. Let me explain. Traditionally, elder law attorneys assist with estate planning documents and how to pay for long-term care. They assist in applying for Medicaid benefits and, in many cases, protect assets from the high cost of long-term care.

Yes, we do assist families in these areas. However, 17 years ago, we at Rothkoff Law Group decided to change the focus of our practice to provide health care advocacy through our geriatric social workers, in addition to the traditional elder law practice areas. Our motto is care comes first, then design an asset protection plan. We assisted with what matters to this family – care. The review does not mention we protected the client’s life savings from long-term care expenses.

We will continue concentrate on what really matters – helping families navigate the long-term care process through our health care advocacy.
